buff docs › Options
Tap ⋯ to the left of the box (or press ⌘, on a keyboard). Settings are stored on your device. The defaults below apply to new installs; changing a setting keeps your choice.
Appearance
- Light or dark: System (follows your iPhone), Light or Dark.
- Theme: Grey (the default), Beige or Salmon, each with its own dark version.
- Font: Carlito (the default), a soft font similar to Calibri, SF Pro (the iPhone’s own font), or SF Mono, a typewriter-style font. Times and lined-up columns stay in typewriter style either way.
- Text size: 14 to 30 points.
- Line spacing: Compact fits more on screen, Normal, or Airy (the default) for easier reading. The sample text shows the difference as you switch.
- On iPad, the text sits in a comfortable reading column in the middle of the screen.
Reading comfort
- Use system text size (on by default) follows Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size instead of buff’s own size.
- Focus fade shows older output in a quieter colour so the latest command stands out.
- Tags under notes (on by default): notes and todos read as plain words, with their people and projects on a quiet line below. See How tagged notes read.
Input
- Command completion: the line of suggestions while you type
/,@or#. - Return key sends (hardware keyboard): when off, Return adds a new line and you save with the Send button.
- Tag hints after a capture: offers
tag @jane-doe?when a note mentions someone you’ve tagged before. - Tips for typing commands directly: after you use
@buff, an occasional tip shows the command it ran, to help you learn the shortcuts. - Week starts on: System (your iPhone’s setting), Monday or Sunday, for
/week,/caland digests.
Capture from anywhere
Short how-tos for the share sheet, Siri, Back Tap and the Action button. See Capture from anywhere.
AI
- AI commands: on or off (off until you turn it on).
- Default for /ask: on-device or Claude.
- Claude API key: add or remove your key.
- Auto-clean new entries (Claude): tidies each note’s wording in the background after you save it.
See AI features.
Vault
Where your notes are and their iCloud sync status, the same as /sync. See Your notes folder.
