Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
buff (“the app”) is a notebook for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what happens to the information you put into it.
The short version
The developer does not collect, receive, store or sell any of your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
Your notes
- Your notes are plain markdown files saved in your own iCloud Drive (the “Buff notes” folder), or on your device if iCloud Drive is off.
- iCloud storage and sync are provided by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. The developer has no access to your iCloud Drive.
- Settings (such as theme and text size) are stored on your device.
Optional AI features
- Apple Intelligence: on supported devices, plain-language requests and quick answers can use Apple’s on-device model. This processing happens on your device.
- Claude (your own key): if you choose to add your own Anthropic API key, some features (such as meeting briefs and cleaning up entries) send the note text needed for that request directly from your device to Anthropic. This is governed by your agreement with Anthropic and Anthropic’s privacy policy. The developer never sees the key or the text. Your key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. Without a key, nothing is sent.
Sharing into the app
Text, links and files you share into buff from other apps are saved into your notes as described above.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
